Character Name: Angel Dust (Anthony)
Series: Hazbin Hotel
Age: Died in his mid 30s. (Has been in hell for upwards of 70 years on top of that.)
From When?: From the end of season 1, lets say he died in the big battle

Inmate Justification:

Angel is all ready canonically working on his redemption by staying at the Hazbin Hotel. He has shown a real desire to both open up, and to be a better person, but he requires the love and support of people/friends to push him. His primary issues are his addiction, and his tendency to push others away before they can hurt him, as well as the overly confident, and hyper sexual persona he puts on to make it through his life.

(Not to mention all the murder and crime from his life before death!)

Arrival: No longer against his will <3

Abilities/Powers:

Retractable limbs: Angel's third set of arms, (as well as apparently his penis) are/is retractable into his body and usually kept out of sight. He has withdrawn weapons from inside himself in the past and can therefore be assumed to have some small storage capacity in there.

Jumping: Based off a jumping spider, Angel is shown in ep 8 to be able to jump several times his body height when the occasion calls for it. He does not use this ability often.

Flexibility: Angel is extremely flexible, shown off in his dancing and acrobatic skills on and off the pole.

Vision: Angel has 8 eyes, the 2 main ones as well as the six 'freckles' under his main set. These are normally kept closed, but could afford him a greater range of sight than a typical person.

Lung Capacity: Angel listing off his body's usual attributes (all sexual in nature) makes note of his lung capacity, suggesting he is able to hold his breath longer than a typical person.

Fire-arms knowledge: Angel is very familiar/skilled with fire-arms, especially Thompson submachine guns

Inmate Information:

In life Angel (then Anthony) was a closeted gay man, born into the Mafia. He was a made man without any say in the matter, taking part in extortion, racketeering, murder and much more. Anthony sought refuge in drugs, and died of an overdose in his mid 30s in 1947.

Finding himself in hell for the sins of his life, he was now an essentially 8ft Spider Demon/Sinner, only truly able to stay dead if he found himself slain with angelic steel/weapons during the annual extermination. He continued his work for the Family for a short time, before breaking off for good. He began doing sex work to support his drug habit, taking part in the odd turf war for fun and amusement.

Eventually he met Valentino, an Overlord and purveyor of all things pornographic in the Pride Ring. The Sinner became Angel's pimp and lover. Angel was seduced into signing his soul away, relationship fraught with abuse and manipulation, driving Angel to retreat further and further into the escape of his drugs.

He doesn't form connections anymore, purposefully pushing others away, and putting up an overly sexualized and confident persona. He wants to be rejected for this false image before he can be hurt for showing something real and vulnerable, and so he can be cruel or cross boundaries with intent to stir up trouble. Angel is very casual and often sarcastic about his sex life/abuse, in part because it is so normalized, but also as a way to cope. He owns it. He loves it. If he wants it then it's not something he has no choice in.

As noted by his addiction, Angel copes via avoidance, numbing or otherwise escaping the pain and reality of his world, rather than deal with the deeper issues.

He can very much be a contrarian. Joining the hotel and bettering himself was something he thought was a joke until he heard that doubt echoed by someone else, and then more out of spite than anything he wanted to prove he could so improve himself, until eventually the want became more genuine over time.

Path to Redemption:

Angel needs to work on his relationship with himself to understand that he is worthy of and deserving of redemption in the first place. He has spent so long playing a role, whether to avoid further abuse, rejection, or his own actions. It is important for Angel to discover who he is as a person when he is allowed to have his own wants and motivations. It has all ready been shown that when Angel is less isolated he begins to open himself up to friendships and even protective rolls. The instinct to do good IS in there.

There is a lot of damage that needs to be undone from the abuse and manipulation suffered under Val, so that Angel in turn can stop trying to break himself in order to be a less appealing toy.

Following this growth, Angel will be better prepared to tackle the life he led that got him to hell in the first place. He knows he is not a good person, but has been high more often than sober at this point, numbing himself to the life and death he's led.

He will need to reflect on the lives he took and actually deal with the guilt and hurt his actions caused. The same is true for the violence he carried out in Hell, and in general- his tendency to turn to violence when angry or upset.

Being whisked away to the Barge will piss Angel off in many ways as he was not given a choice and this has been the case so often in his life. And as he's all ready in Hell AND working on redemption, he doesn't believe he is an ideal choice to be stolen away.

However, he would celebrate being essentially free of his contractual obligations for the first time in decades.

Angel would respond more immediately to a hard hand in theory, used to Val, but conversely he would rebel much harder until he learned where they would not budge. A softer touch would be ultimately more successful, but easier for Angel to take advantage of in the early stages of a relationship. He won't make it particularly easy regardless, always pushing boundaries in new relationships. Someone who won't let themselves be pushed away will eventually see Angel soften and become more vulnerable over time.

Updated: Having been here before, Angel will adapt much easier than before, especially being reunited with his friends/support network, and with the growth he's experienced back home as well. He's learned to open up and show more of his real self, and to take joy in being part of a self made family. He's much closer on his path to redemption, having stood up to Valentino, and let himself risk the hurt that comes from caring for others. This will allow him to hopefully do the same here, reigniting relationships and being more open to exploring what it is that landed him in Hell in the first place- the final piece in his journey.
